The Globe Theatre

  • The Globe Theatre also known as the Shakespeare Globe Theatre was not only one of most famous theatres of all time, but the theatre where Shakespeare performed many of his greatest plays.
  • The Globe Theatre was based in the Bankside District of London
  •  Built from mainly oak, the 3 storey, 3000 person capacity Globe Theatre, co-owned by William Shakespeare has become almost as famous as himself.
  • The Globe Theatre started Being built in 1599 by a carpender Peter Smith along with his workforce. The Globe Theatre was finished in 1600.
  • A fire broke out in the Globe Theatre in June 29 1913, causing the Theatre to be burned down.
  • Another Globe Theatre was built shortly after the fire in 1614, on the same site as the  first.
  • The Motto of the Globe Theatre was “Totus mundus agit histrionem” which means the whole world is a playhouse (Theatre).
  • On April the 15th 1644 the Globe Theatre was Demolished by the Puritans.
  • Once The Globe Theatre was Demolished, Landowner Sir Matthew Brend used the land for tenement houses.
